Since my music's kind of a throwback to the singer-songwriters of the 70's anyway, why not write a song reflecting on the way things were vs. the pace things move in today's world.
For the record, I'm not "quite" this old...
Lyrics
Slid a nickel into the pay phone
An operator put you through
I'm not saying it was better,
It's just what we had to do.
When it got late all shows would end
The anthem, it would play
After that the signal died
Nothing to watch until sunrise
It was the pace that we lived at
When we knew our neighbor's name
How they made your coffee
Never needed to be said
Didn't have the world in the palm of our hand
But we knew every inch of the one we were raised in
Things sure moved slower back then
Now scrolling through TikTok
Sometimes young women appear
They wear next to nothing
And dance for higher views
It's the pace that we live at
When streamers are our friends
Digital money sent as thanks
For time that was spent
We have the world in the palm of our hand
But barely se the land that surrounds us
Things sure moved slower back then
Back when handshake deals and promises
Made the world go 'round
When jobs were good, provided food
Paid bills and so much more
I'm not saying which is better
And I know we can't go back
Lord knows it wasn't perfect
We can't sugar coat our past
But times like these I wish we could press pause
Take in the scenes before just moving on
Yeah the way we did back then
It was the pace that we lived at
When we knew our neighbor's name
How they made your coffee
Never needed to be said
Didn't have the world in the palm of our hand
But we knew every inch of the one we were raised in
I wish things moved slower
Just a little slower
Yeah the way they did way back then
