All The Light

I came at writing this song from the opposite end compared to my normal approach. I had nothing but a mandolin riff, and gradually built up a three part mandolin section for the verse/instrumental sections, then added rhythm guitar, and a harmonica intro. Then I did the same for the chorus and bridge sections. It wasn't until this point that I even started thinking about lyrics. The lyrics were spontaneous, almost stream of consciousness afterthoughts, following the music. The whole thing came together over three days rather than all at once, and was more like musical Lego than my normal intentional writing process, but I'm happy with the result.

Lyrics

Your eyes, the way they sparkle
And the sun dancing in your hair
Oh, you leave me breathless
Every time you're near

When I hear you speak my name
It brings me to my knees
Oh, you don't know
What it is you do to me

You're the key to the lock in my heart
You set me free
I do the same for you
It's always you and me
Though the road ahead is dark
You're all the light I need

I didn't know what love was
You made my life complete
Seems like angels sent you
A gift on heaven's wings

You're the key to the lock in my heart
You set me free
I do the same for you
It's always you and me
Though the road ahead is dark
You're all the light I need

The odds say we're gonna lose it all
Somehow we're still standing tall
When you and I are together
We'll beat the odds
We're in it forever

You're the key to the lock in my heart
You set me free
I do the same for you
It's always you and me
Though the road ahead is dark
You're all the light I need
