The idea for this one came to me at the beginning of the month. I was listening to a podcast, Mandolins and Beer, and either the guest or host mentioned something to the effect of "Would you like blue cheese or ranch dressing with your chicken wings". A made a mental note, tossed together some lyric ideas and set it aside as I was busy. I came back to it today and finished it up. Plenty to relate to for anyone who's ever played a bar. From what I've seen, it seems to be a universal truth no matter where you live.

Lyrics

You want blue cheese or ranch with that
Do you need a top up
Can I bring you a beer
That's what I hear from up on the stage
Set dressing that nobody sees

I play my heart out
May as well be a jukebox
Can't play my own songs 'round here
It's covers or nothing, that's what I'm told
If I want to get paid

Ive come to know that's the life of the bar circuit
Take it or leave it
Schlepping the same tunes to dive bars across town
Seven days a week
That can only go on for so long before something gets broken inside
I'm broken inside

A drunk stumbles over,
Says give me a turn
I play guitar like you
Soon he falls over, spills beer on my gear
Happens most nights around here

Ive come to know that's the life of the bar circuit
Take it or leave it
Schlepping the same tunes to dive bars across town
Seven days a week
That can only go on for so long before something gets broken inside
I'm broken inside

I've something to say, my own songs to sing
Life should spark joy, so Marie Kondo says
Not much cheer around here, just pretzels and beer
The sad truth is I'll die of exposure 'round here
I've something to say, my own songs to sing
Life should spark joy, so Marie Kondo says
Not much cheer around here, just pretzels and beer
The sad truth is I'll die of exposure 'round here

Ive come to know that's the life of the bar circuit
Take it or leave it
Schlepping the same tunes to dive bars across town
Seven days a week
That can only go on for so long before something gets broken inside
I'm broken inside
