In the runup to February Album Writing Month, FAWM for short, I was noodling with my guitar and making up lyrics when this song came to me. I was going to let it slip away, but my wife insisted I write what I had down and finish it. A short while later, I was in my home studio, recording a stripped-down vocal and guitar demo, and this was the result.
Lyrics
I don't know what others think when they hear me sing.
And I don't know if they can feel the words that come to me.
But I'll write the stories of their lives until the day I die
It's what I am in heart and soul
It's all I've ever known.
I'm a songwriter, a people watcher.
Making sense of all I see
Weaving tales of lives untold
And healing wounds unseen.
I see a couple in the park, one smiling, one looks sad.
One thinks everything is fine; the other seeks an exit.
I'll fit the clues together from the brief glimpse that I saw.
Soon enough, their love is gone, and I'll just have this song.
I'm a songwriter, a people watcher.
Making sense of all I see
Weaving tales of lives untold
And healing wounds unseen.
They say the world's a stage.
And a song is just a play
A tale of life when all else fades away.
I'm a songwriter, a people watcher.
Making sense of all I see
Weaving tales of lives untold
And healing wounds unseen.
