I'm still trying to play catchup; this is another skirmish prompt from a few days ago. The prompt is Murder Ballad. I'm not sure where the idea came from for this. I'm a tea drinker, my mom's a gardener who often spends hours in the summer enjoying the fruits of her labor, and I guess I've listened to enough murder ballads to be able to twist that into something darker.
I have a background in criminal justice, and I thought it might be a nice change of pace to show a man as the victim of domestic abuse for once. While in the minority, it happens, and several years ago, as a dispatcher and jailer, I saw some of the aftermath of a guy who didn't survive his girlfriend pulling a knife when she got upset.
Lyrics
Sitting in the garden drinking tea alone
Watching flowers bloom around me
It's quiet now you're gone
Nobody comes around
And no one asks me how
My garden - grows so well
The neighbors used to call the cops
And they'd take me to jail
They never found a mark on you
But they believed your tale
It's quiet now you're gone
Nobody comes around
And no one asks me how
My garden - grows so well
One night, your knife came out
I'd decided I'd had enough
That's the night I put you down
It's quiet now you're gone
Nobody comes around
And no one asks me how
My garden - grows so well
They don't ask
And I don't tell.
