She Knew

A local songwriting contest provided the prompt, She Knew, for the required title. With that in mind, knowing I still need to write several more songs this week for FAWM, I got to work. The thematic elements are my thoughts for the main characters in the book I'm working on, but set in some future novel years down the road, as he's telling his grandkids about how they met.

As a point of interest, I struggled with the music on this one. What I wanted for the verse, chorus, and bridge didn't seem to work together, so it took a lot of experimenting to find something that worked for all three areas and gave me food for thought for other songs.

Lyrics

I remember that diner, the day we met
I can still picture the ribbon in her hair.
The way she smiled at me, it stole my breath
All I could do was stop and stare.
I wasn't looking. I was hurt and scared.

But she knew, yeah, she knew.
And in time, I knew it, too.

That fall fest, she showed me around.
Introduced me to her friends
As it got dark, she sat me down
Right there on a park bench.

'Cause she knew, yeah, she knew
And in time, I knew it, too.

From our first kiss, the night she taught me to dance
She had my heart in the palm of her hand
I took convincing, 'cause dreams don't seam real
But it's been heaven since we sealed the deal.

'Cause she knew, yeah, she knew
And in time, I knew it, too.
