Democracy's a Fragile Thing

I'm Canadian, living in the States as a permanent resident. My wife is an American citizen with a lot of health issues. We are friends with many people from all walks of life and political and religious leanings, and we work hard to understand and accept the viewpoints of others. That said, I can't fathom the willful choice to support what the current administration is doing to dismantle nearly 250 years of democracy and bypass all governmental checks and balances to accomplish completely un-American goals in the name of "making America great again.

While I can't vote, despite what some might have you believe, we are a fairly politically educated and involved household, drawing information from numerous sources rather than a single tainted viewpoint. Maybe that's the reason for the disconnect. I don't know. Either way, this song is a call to stand up and ensure that there will be an American for generations to come.

Lyrics

America of yesterday is fading fast
It will be gone in the blink of history's eye
Land of beauty, home of the proud and brave
Being sold off by greed in power ties

Democracy's a fragile thing
We need to tend it like a garden
If we don't weed it, history repeats
Yeah, democracy's a fragile thing

America, the land of our hopes and dreams
A place we're all equal in the eyes of the law
It's becoming quite clear that it ain't been true in years
The main in charge should be behind bars

Democracy's a fragile thing
We need to tend it like a garden
If we don't weed it, history repeats
Yeah, democracy's a fragile thing

It's not too late, though we don't have long
We need to stand together and say this is wrong
Democracy's a fragile thing

Democracy's a fragile thing
We need to tend it like a garden
If we don't weed it, history repeats
Yeah, democracy's a fragile thing

Democracy's a fragile thing
We need to tend it like a garden
If we don't weed it, history repeats
Yeah, democracy's a fragile thing
Democracy's a fragile thing
Democracy's a fragile thing
